Uppingham and the beauty of Rutland

Uppingham is a gem of a friendly little market town - there's a traditional market in the Square every Friday - with a wealth of unique and interesting shops and galleries. It's a ten minute drive from Oakham, Rutland's county town which boasts a fascinating Castle - and more great independent shops. A 20 minute drive will bring you to Stamford with its stunning architecture - home to many TV period drama shoots including Pride and Prejudice and Middlemarch - and magnificent Burghley House.

We are also only a ten minute drive from the south shore of Rutland Water, Europe's largest manmade lake, where you can sail, fish, take a boat trip on the Rutland Belle or enjoy an unsurpassed variety of birdlife - including the famous ospreys. The British Birdwatching Fair takes place here each August.
